Course overview
General English lessons
All students are tested on their first full day and subsequently placed in classes of no more than 16 students at an appropriate level for their ability.
The lessons are topic-based and are designed to help students develop communication skills, natural English and a range of vocabulary. Materials have been specifically developed for this course and include authentic resources. The maximum number of students in these classes is 16.
Academic Preparation
The academic preparation classes will have an average of 10 participants. Each student will receive lots of personal attention from the qualified and experienced teachers at all times.
Methodology
Classwork will include discussions and analysis on a variety of relevant subject areas, problem solving, pair, group and individual work, topic vocabulary training, past exam questions, cultural awareness regarding academic expectations and reading with course book selections.
Core and Elective subjects.
Core Subjects
- Maths
- Business studies
The core subject is the main topic of study. Students study either Maths or Business Studies, according to the choice they have indicated on their application form and will have seven core subject classes of 100 minutes each during the 2 week course.
Elective Subjects
- Literature and Art
- Humanities
- General Science
- Economics
Elective subjects are studied for 70 minutes a day and for a total of seven days during the two week course. Each student will study a different elective each week, based on the preferences they have shown on their application form.
Electives allow students to gain an in depth knowledge of their chosen subjects, with like minded students, in a friendly environment. In short they give students an excellent foundation for their future choice of studies.
Excursions and Activities
Every evening students can enjoy a variety of different activities. Some are for the whole summer school (disco, karaoke, talent show, sports tournaments) and some are for smaller groups (film night, quiz night, bingo).
At least once per week, activities are organised within the boarding houses or between two boarding houses to give students an opportunity to get to know their housemates or neighbours and to practise their English while socialising and having fun.
Excursions
Students will visit London, Oxford, Stratford-on-Avon & Warwick Castle, Drayton Manor Theme Park for a full-day (09:00 – 21:00). Additional destinations are available for students staying for 3 or 4 weeks.
Optional half-day excursions to Birmingham, Worcester and Stratford-on-Avon are also available during the week for all students and these can be booked at the School.
