Founded in 1428, Magdalene College is the seventh oldest College at the University of Cambridge. Formerly known as Buckingham College, The 3rd Duke of Buckingham built the College hall and was ready to be awarded the College, but was executed for treason at the age of 41. The College was renamed Magdalene College in 1542 by Lord Thomas Audley. The famous Samuel Pepys, a celebrated diarist, joined the College in 1650.

Excursions
Over the duration of the two week course, there are three full-day excursions and one half-day trip to a variety of destinations. Students are accompanied by staff on all excursions, and can be given free-time if appropriate.
London
At least one excursion per week will take students to London. In previous years, students have gone all over the city, to an assortment of museums, landmarks and attractions.
Politics and Royalty Tour
All students go on the ‘Politics & Royalty’ tour of central London, seeing world-famous landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, Horse Guards Parade, Trafalgar Square, Downing Street, Westminster Abbey, The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.
Brighton
This seaside town is a classic British holiday resort. Choose to go shopping in The Lanes, ride a rollercoaster on Brighton Pier or take a leisurely stroll along the beach.
On-site Activities
In the evenings students can relax after a busy day. We offer a range of activities in Oxford and Cambridge – from bowling to cinema and theatre to restaurant visits – although some students prefer to stay in college and prepare for their tutorials, workshops or seminars.
Sport
Sporting activities are optional, but students are given plenty of opportunities to refine their skills in the traditional British games of croquet and cricket. Other options include soccer, basketball, tennis, squash, swimming and even ice skating. Activities are held during afternoon and evening sessions and can also be arranged according to demand.
Free Time
Students are allowed to sign out of college during set periods. As our students are older teenagers, they are permitted to explore their new surroundings with new friends.
Students must always be with at least one other and stick to strict curfews.
