English lessons
The learning materials that are used in class are exclusively available at our partner Junior summer schools and were designed by specialist teachers for students whose native language is not English. Students will typically receive 15 hours of English lessons per week.
Lessons aim to increase the students’ confidence in communicating in English through engaging and age-appropriate topics and activities. All language is presented in context to show and practice how English is used in the real world and not just the lesson.
Teenage learners need variety
The Junior Syllabus is a well-structured framework for teenage learners. Lessons promote speaking, reading, listening and writing skills practice to increase language fluency but also the opportunity to improve language accuracy with challenging grammar exercises and focus on new vocabulary.
The syllabus is complemented by culture themed lessons, focusing on different aspects of British life, including music, sport, literature and history. They are an opportunity for students to find out more about their host culture and compare their cultural experience and background with that of other students.
Assessment and certification
On arrival all students sit a written and oral exam to identify which level study is the most appropriate for them
Based on continuous assessment throughout their stay all students receive a Report Card and Certificate of Attendance at the end of their course.
Students have the opportunity of taking the Trinity College GESE during their stay.
Social Spaces
Evening activities such as the Disco,X Factor and the Fashion Show are held in the Boutflour Hall. An additional social space with sofas, pool, a projector screen and a television is located in the Tithe Barn.
There is also a social space outside the Atrium Café. Films are held in the same building as the café, in one of the lecture theatres.
Activities
The school offers excellent on-site activities which are tailored to each location, and with a specific theme running throughout. The on-site programme has a range of choices available, from discos, talent shows and sports competitions, to movie nights and treasure hunts throughout the campus.
