Overview

This is a great course for older teenagers who plan to go on and use English in their future career and who want to study in the truly inspiring surroundings of a Cambridge University college.

This Cambridge course is one of our city centre programmes which includes periods of semi-supervised free time (‘Freestyle Afternoons’) when students can spend time in Cambridge shopping, socialising or just relaxing in this beautiful city.

Course structure

Classes typically take place in the morning with one “lazy morning” each week with classes in the afternoon.

As well as the morning classes there will also be evening academic sessions that could take the form of project sessions, group discussions or feedback sessions.

The evening sessions are interactive and are a great way to practise new language skills in a more relaxed classroom environment.

Before every full-day excursion, there will also be a brief link lesson preparing students for what exciting things they’re going to see and how to make the most of their visit.

End of course assessment

Every student receives an end of course assessment which covers the following areas:

  • Oral aptitude
  • Written skills
  • Comprehension

English lessons

Students follow a structured communicative English Language syllabus with the emphasis on speaking and listening skills.

English is taught in an innovative and interesting way and teachers encourage students to develop their English skills using participative based learning which includes role plays, class discussions and debates.

The fundamentals of language learning is key to all classes and the school pays particular attention in all classes on developing the core skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Themed project work

The course also includes weekly-themed project work, where students have the opportunity to apply the language they have learned in class productively in realistic situations.

At the end of every week students present their project and there is a prize for the winning team.
